Vintage Metalwork, Inc. offers the specialized knowledge
and coordination of services for appropriate treatment of historic
metalwork. Our experience implementing historic preservation standards
and our first hand knowledge of traditional metalworking, featuring
hot forged iron, insure an effective approach to preservation projects.
This same knowledge and experience is carried over to the development
of new designs for a variety of applications.
Past custom projects have included
the design and fabrication of original gates, railings, signage,
tree guards and arbors for the outfitting and adornment of designed
landscapes. We believe that close consultation with designers and
end users during the entire design process and our ability to provide
full scale prototypes of products for review, insures the success
of any new custom metal work or rehabilitation project.

Arborists advocate that newly planted trees be allowed to
move in the wind in order to build up a strong root stock.
A series of prototypes of tree guards have been developed
that can not only protect trees from all kinds of aggression
in urban environments, but can provide just the type of flexible
support that arborists would like to see. This photo shows
a tree with a typical rigid staking.
|
A tree guard can provide a more attractive alternative to
staking, providing additional protection from dogs, weed whackers,
lawn mowers and tree climbers. This model of tree guard is
forged and riveted with cast zinc rosettes. It can be staked
to the ground as shown, or bolted to a cast iron tree grate.

The design of the tree guard can be customized for any landscaped
context. This more contemporary design includes a lock bar
for bicycles. Here again we enjoy working with creative professionals
and discriminating clients to provide unique solutions to
design problems. An appropriately designed tree guard can
encourage bike use while protecting the tree and providing
a decorative accent to a designed landscape.
